October 8-9, 2010 Improving Gait and Mobility for Pediatric Clients: A Blend of EBP and Direct Handling using NDT”, Instructed by Debbie Evans-Rogers, Houston, TX
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This 2-day workshop on gait and mobility for the pediatric client has been designed for pediatric therapists working with children having neuromotor difficulties.
The focus will be on understanding functional limitations and specific strategies to improve postural control, gait, and mobility with children. Participants will be provided recent research using evidence-based practice and direct handling techniques using NDT.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the importance aspects of assessment including common orthopedic musculoskeletal impairments affecting gait and mobility.
2. Discuss and begin initial analysis of posture and movement difficulties involved with children having neuromotor conditions.
3. Discuss recent gait and handling research findings for the pediatric client.
4. Identify two adjuncts used in conjunction with therapy to assist with improving functional gait and mobility.
5. Practice a variety of intervention techniques utilizing NDT for improving postural control and functional independence.
The suggested audience for this course is pediatric PT’s, OT’s and other professionals interested in the assessment and treatment of children with neuromotor impairments. Course content is not intended for use by participants outside the scope of their license or regulation.
