After graduating from the University of Connecticut, Joan Mohr worked in acute hospital, rehabilitation facility, childrens hospital and home care settings for many years. She was particularly involved with cerebral palsy, severe mental retardation and adult neurological patients. In 1966, Ms. Mohr took the first course given in the United States by Dr. Karel and Mrs. Berti Bobath. She qualified in 1970 as a Bobath Instructor in Cerebral Palsy and in 1973 as an Adult Hemiplegia Instructor. Ms. Mohr studied further with the Bobaths both in England and the United States and has also studied with Helen Müeller, Dr. Köng and Mary Quinton. She continues to takes course in preterm infants, biomechanics and other related subjects. Joan Mohr presently spends most of her time teaching the Basic Courses in Cerebral Palsy and Adult Hemiplegia as well as numerous Advanced Courses, including Baby Courses, Inservices and Workshops since 1976. She has traveled and taught throughout Israel, South Africa, Europe (including Scandinavia, Lithuania,Greece and Turkey) South and North America and China and recently has shifted special focus on developing countries. In addition, she provides both corporate and private consultations and continues to spend one fifth of her time in private practice. Her specialized field of interest for the past several years has been the study and analysis of the trunk and movement related to function with emphasis on biomechanics, kinesiology and movement components. In 1991 published an article in APTA Neurology's In Touch Series on The Management of the Trunk in Adult Hemiplegia. In 1999 wrote a chapter in Parent Articles about NDT. Ms. Mohr served as Chairman of NDTA and, more recently, as chairman of I.B.I.T.A. (International Bobath Instructor/Training Association - Adult Hemiplegia) for two terms (1986-1992) and has been a senior instructor since 1979. In 1988 Ms. Mohr was honored as the second recipient of the NDTA, Inc. Award of Excellence.
