The 2007 NDTA Specialty Conference: An Intermediate Level Gait Course in Tempe, AZ began with Kathleen Ganley, PhD, PT, speaking on the “Biomechanics of Typical Gait” and facilitating a discussion with a sold-out crowd of, as she stated, “expert clinicians.” While emphasizing that the primary goal of gait is “forward progression,” we delved into each sub-phase of gait, focusing on the functional importance of the phases and the interrelationships of the joint kinematics and kinetics (ground reaction and muscle forces) throughout the lower extremity.
