DESCRIPTION

This 2 day course is designed to provide information about handling and ‘earliest intervention’ to persons (care-givers, therapists and
nursing personnel) involved with premature babies. The course covers two situations: 1) handling in the NICU (and possibly PICU), and
2) handling at home. 1) We discuss some of the typical medical situations that arise in the NICU, with ideas relating to communication
and precautions. We consider positioning and handling ideas in the NICU, and information sharing with parent / care-giver as well as
other staff. 2) We discuss ‘entry’ into the home: helping parent / care-giver ‘comfort level’ in the handling of their infant. Didactic, lab,
and demonstration will be mechanisms for sharing this information.

Equipment: Participants should bring a soft doll and receiving blanket.
