On-Demand (virtual) Program

This On-Demand program is part of a two-part NDTA Approved Advanced Certificate Course, to be eligible for part 2 (coming February 2024, in-person), participants must first complete part 1, on-demand. 

Registration is open through January 31, 2024 and the Part 1 must be completed no later than February 6, 2024.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

  1. Develop an appreciation for the neurobiology of upper extremity function.
  2. Identify significant anatomical, kinesiological and develop mental characteristics of the head, neck, spine, rib cage, shoulder girdle complex and upper extremities.
  3. Evaluate typical motions of the upper extremity.
  4. Observe, analyze, and evaluate effective and ineffective posture and movement of the head, neck and trunk as they impact a client’s functional abilities/limitations in relation to upper extremity function.
  5. Analyze atypical movement patterns throughout the body and determine impairments that interfere with upper extremity function.
  6. Construct effective treatment strategies that address primary impairments interfering with efficient use of the upper extremity during functional activities.
  7. Analyze the interaction between oral motor, upper extremity and lower extremity impairments as they specifically impact upper extremity function.

Eight, 90-minute sessions available on-demand/streaming. Registration remains open through January 2024 and access to view through February 6, 2024.

  • Session 3: Typical and Atypical Development of Shoulder Girdle & Reach
  • Session 4: Anatomy, Kinesiology and Treatment of the Elbow and Forearm 
  • Session 5: Typical and Atypical Hand Development
  • Session 6: Hand and Wrist Anatomy
  • Session 7: Functional Kinesiology of the Wrist and Hand 
  • Session 8: In-Hand Manipulation
