NDTA Centers of Excellence (COE) is a program which will link NDTA membership, education, and research to therapy facilities and their clients. The Centers of Excellence Committee continues to develop this program by defining its requirements and expectations.

The Centers of Excellence goals include:

  • Rewrite application for COE
  • Rewrite renewal process for existing COE’s
  • Develop scoring/evaluation process for applications and renewals
  • Determine additional benefits that can be offered to centers considering application to become COE’s

Conference Planning

Committee Chair: Kimberly Westhoff, OTR/L, C/NDT

The Conference Planning Committee plans and produces an annual conference program, bringing a state-of-the-art educational program to the therapy community based on theory, research and clinical application as it relates to NDT.

Representatives of the NDTA Instructor Group develop the education content and identify conference presenters. Members of the conference development committee plan and produce all other aspects of the conference.

All Conference Committee members are required to participate actively in monthly planning teleconferences and to be on-site during the meeting to assist with the management of the conference.

The goal of the Conference Planning Committee is to plan and produce an annual high-quality conference that contributes to the visibility and branding of NDTA and that generates a consistent revenue for the association. In addition, our goal is to help meet the educational needs of the NDTA membership.

Instructor Group Executive

The Instructor Group Executive Committee is dedicated to serving the members of NDTA, Inc. by: The Instructors Group is composed of active members of NDTA, Inc. who have met standardized criteria to teach or assist in teaching NDTA approved basic and advanced level courses.

Purpose of the Instructors Group is to: 

  • Develop and maintain standards and procedures for entry of students/participants and establish criteria for successful course completion.
  • Develop and maintain the competency standards for instructors and performance standards in all NDTA approved courses.
  • Develop, maintain, and update course curriculum based on the current evidence pertinent to NDT.

The Instructor Group Executive goals include:

  • Support the IG Group and standing committees and serve as a team member to the ongoing projects of the NDTA BOD and Office  
  • Complete pediatric modular curriculum
  • Assist National Office with NDTA-sponsored seminars
  • Provide educational sessions for the full Instructors Group during the annual meeting.
  • Development of AH assistant course and consideration of AH modular format. 
  • We currently have 2 areas that we are addressing for our Strategic Plan:
    • Succession planning – emphasis on increasing the number of candidates for CI and PT, as well as OT and SLP, especially in the adult course content.

The membership committee also encompasses the Alliances Task Force. The Alliances Task Force promotes awareness and education to the broader NDT community about the advantage of receiving care from an NDT-trained therapist. This includes Clients and their parents/caregivers, fellow therapists, academia and students, other national and international associations, vendors, and various community, state, and federal representatives. 

The Membership goals include:

  • Promote, market, and expand the benefits of NDTA membership Explore reciprocal website linking with “sister” NDT international sites and NDT-supporting sites ie: corporate sponsors, etc. Coordinate with other NDTA committees Education, NCPC, and Publications– at international, national, and local levels to bring in new members in all membership categories Participate in Annual Membership Meeting including format and presentation Monitor membership trends and membership renewal process

The Research Committee is dedicated to serving the members of NDTA, Inc. by: Facilitating the conduct of research and the dissemination of research findings relating to NDT.

The Research goals include:

  • Design and implement a plan for facilitating research related to NDT. Provide ways for NDT clinicians to establish collaborative relationships with skilled researchers including those at outside agencies such as universities, colleges, etc. Assist the Instructors’ Group and the membership in keeping current with planned, on-going, and published research relating to or supporting NDT. Award 1-2 small research grants per year, monitor progress of awarded grants, and facilitate dissemination of the results of funded studies.

Theory 

Committee Chair: Judith (Judi) C. Bierman, DPT, C/NDT

The Theory Committee is dedicated to updating and writing/publishing the current theoretical framework of NDT.

The Theory goals include:

  • Publishing the current theoretical framework of NDT
  • Provide regular updates to the NDT theoretical base through literature research reviews
  • Assist in the review and revision of the Curriculum Guide in conjunction with the Curriculum Committee

The membership of the Theory Committee includes active Instructors, with representation from the PT, OT, SLP, and CI Working Groups as well as a representative from the Research Committee and Curriculum Committee.

The theory committee took a special project in the past five years of updating the book “Neuro-developmental Treatment Approach: Theoretical Foundations of Clinical Practice” by Janet Howle and that was published by NDTA in 2002. Early in the process it was decided to write a second book rather than updating the previous book . This book is entitled “Neuro-Developmental Treatment in Action: A guide to Clinical Practice” It has more than 35 contributors and was developed by a sub of the entire committee. This book’s editors include: Judith C Bierman, Mary Rose Franjoine, Cathy Hazzard, Janet Howle, and Marcia Stamer who all are active in the theory committee and worked with the group as a whole in the developmental process.
