2025 Specialty Conference Description
Level: Intermediate
Description
Join us for “The Infant: Neuro-Developmental Building Blocks” a live hands-on conference focused on exploring the neuro-developmental foundation of infant development. This intermediate level course will enhance the critical thinking skills of OT, PT, and SLP clinicians who treat infants with a variety of neuro-developmental challenges. Looking at the infant as a whole, attendees will gain valuable insights into critical topics such as sensory development, respiration, feeding, early mobility, as well as early identification of neuromuscular impairments in infants. Current research and practice will be explored and applied to bridge the gap to clinical practice of the individual infant. This conference will include lectures from leading physicians with various specialty areas in pediatrics and direct, clinical application from the therapy experts using a contemporary NDT perspective.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the conference, participants will be able to:
- Distinguish early identifications and signs of neurological challenges and/or cerebral palsy in infants.
- Summarize common health conditions (auditory, orthopedic hip conditions, GI, etc.) often seen in infants/young children with cerebral palsy.
- Correlate effective treatment strategies related to the thoracic cage, pelvis and lower extremity stability and mobility to achieve an effective BOS and alignment in order to impact respiratory coordination during function, including play, sound production, eating/drinking, and movement.
- Examine the role of facilitation within the Contemporary NDT Practice Model to optimize motor control and motor learning.
- Establish how self-regulation in infants with neurological challenges impact their participation in play and social engagement.
