Community Connections

NDTA has created an informative and exciting networking opportunity for you!

Our goal is to provide our NDTA community with a platform that will bring fellow colleagues together to network and share NDT ideas and strategies for assessment, treatment, and problem-solving. We are planning events on specific topics and themes for both the pediatric and adult populations, to discuss topic successes, and concerns, and entertain any questions you have.

This is a member-driven event, not a lecture. Members should bring their questions and share topic strategies, ideas, and network.

This event is supported by the exceptional expertise of our Instructor Group.

Have a topic suggestion for a future event? Please share! Post in the NDTA Community Connections Group.

Upcoming Community Connections Events

May 2026 Community Connections "Integrating Function: Postural Control, Respiration, and Speech Sound Production"

Join us to celebrate Speech-Language-Hearing Month!

Supported By: Rona Alexander, PhD, CCC-SLP, BCS-S, C/NDT & Carmen Pagan, MA, CCC-SLP, C/NDT

Moderator: Melissa G. Smith, MS, CCC-SLP, C/NDT

Here are some questions to think about:

  • How do the NDT Core Principles support your assessment process and what areas do you observe that helps design your treatment session for communication and speech sound production?
  • What components are needed for phonation?
  • What is the relationship of the diaphragm to the ribcage/abdominals/pelvis.
  • Why is postural control needed for respiration and phonation?
  • What is the impact to function if a child has poor postural control?
  • How are the ABC’s used to design your treatment strategies? What systems should/do you focus on (for preparation to function)
  • How can PT and OT collaborate with an SLP on treatment?
  • What are considerations for adults vs pediatrics?
  • How does the aging process impact the function of voicing/communication for many of our patients/clients?
  • Sharing of treatment strategies that support activation of the respiratory musculature for phonation/communication.
