Developing Movement Strategies for Function in Adults with Stroke and Brain Injury - An Introduction to the Contemporary Practice of NDT

6/14/2025 - 6/15/2025 - Still time to register!

Instructed by: Jodi Renard, PT, DPT, C/NDT

Longview, TX

NDT Approved Credit 14.0

Course ID: A0095

Session Description: During this seminar, the participant will learn about the principles and strategies of the Contemporary Practice of NDT as currently applied to adults with impairments resulting from stroke or traumatic brain injury. The emphasis will be on improving movement analysis skills during meaningful, functional tasks and the application of tactile feedback to enhance effective movement strategies for the successful completion of meaningful, functional tasks. The seminar emphasizes a problem-solving approach to integrated patient assessment based on an understanding of functional limitations, system impairments, and motor dysfunction. The information presented includes a discussion of the following topics: research supporting neuro recovery and neuroplasticity, identification of treatment variables that promote neuroplastic changes, and the application of complementary treatment strategies to enhance functional outcomes. The course includes videotape presentations and a patient treatment demonstration by the instructor. Therapeutic handling techniques utilized in treatment to address motor dysfunction will be demonstrated and practiced in interactive problem-solving laboratory sessions.

Meeting in the Middle: Improving All Aspects of Function by Treating the Trunk: A One-Day NDT Course for PTs, OTs, & SLPs

9/6/2025

Instructed by: Monica Diamond, PT, MS, NCS, C/NDT

Baltimore, MD

NDT Approved Credit 8.0

Course ID: A0097

Session Description: Although we all learn about the “middle” of the body to some extent in school, as we deepen our understanding of the functions we are responsible for as therapists, we often find that we need to go back to the basics and improve our understanding and management of the trunk. Through its connections via the shoulder girdle, pelvic girdle and neck, the trunk is an integral part of the functions that OT’s, PT’s and SLP’s address daily in the clinic. A greater understanding of the trunk will prepare each participant in this course to assess proximal problems and potential and to facilitate the postural control that is necessary for achievement of functional goals in each discipline. Course participants will explore “trunk control”, and its connection to the larger skill of “postural control”. Lectures and videos will enable course participants to deepen their awareness of the interrelationship of the elements of trunk control and the interaction of the functions addressed by each discipline. Lab activities will focus on hands-on assessment and treatment of proximal postural control components, leading to success in distal functions involving the head, arm and leg. The day will conclude with problem-solving relating to the challenges we all face in managing the trunk for achievement of functional goals.

Infant Handling Intensive

12/4/2025 - 12/6/2025

Instructed by: Suzanne Davis Bombria, PT, C/NDT

Buffalo, NY

NDT Approved Credit 18.5

Course ID: A0099

Seminar Description: Working with babies and toddlers is a specialty all its own. In this dynamic seminar on contemporary NDT, the principles of evidence-based strategies will be applied to go from observational assessment to intervention. utilizing strategies for babies with neuromotor impairments such as developmental delays, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and prematurity. The course is designed to give therapists ideas and tools that are immediately applicable with this population. An emphasis is placed on the practical application of intervention strategies that offer the prevention of secondary impairments and meaningful functional outcomes appropriate for this age group. Therapeutic strategies for incorporation into family life will also be explored. Course information is provided through lectures, demonstration, videos of case studies, and labs.

Align, Activate, Re-educate: Achieving Functional Outcomes with the Adult with a Neuro Diagnosis Using the NDT Approach

12/6/2025 - 12/7/2025

Instructed by: Monica Diamond, PT, MS, NCS, C/NDT; Kris Gellert, OTR/L, C/NDT

Redwood City, CA

NDT Approved Credit 14

Course ID: A0118

Seminar Description: Through lectures, labs, and patient demonstrations, participants will have an opportunity to develop their understanding and skill in treating the functional limitations of patients with neuromotor system impairments, across the continuum of care. Particular emphasis will be placed on the need for an understanding of the entire body, and the development of skills in the management of multiple body segments in order to achieve functional goals of all disciplines. Labs will provide an opportunity for assessment and practice of strategies for improving patient performance of mobility and ADL activities. Problem-solving for individual patient needs will be discussed, demonstrated, and practiced.

Webinars

NDTA webinars offer a variety of educational opportunities in a safe, and virtual format. Webinars can be as little as an hour, or progress over several sessions to meet the needs of both pediatric and adult therapists.

Mobility and Upright Postural Control and Their Impact on Respiration and Oral Function through the Lifespan

6/30/2025 - 7:00-10:00 PM (Eastern)

Instructed by: Leslie Paparsenos, PT, MSPT, C/NDT; Rona Alexander, CCC-SLP, PhD, C/NDT

Virtual

NDT Approved Credit 3

Course ID: A0123

Seminar Description: Mobility and upright postural control are keys to the “Fountain of Youth”! Maintaining effective respiratory and oral function is important for our patients throughout their lifespan, whether they start life with challenges or experience a life-changing event later in life. Participation in social activities, including communicating and eating with family and friends, is vital to our patient’s overall health and well-being. If we can address mobility and upright postural control, we can affect impairments such as pain, weakness, immobility, and other neuromotor and sensory impairments. Understanding these challenges throughout the aging process can provide us with the key to helping our patients reach their potential for participation in social settings and daily life. In this session, we will examine key impairments that can arise during the aging process in individuals with childhood-onset disabilities, such as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and genetic disorders impacting rib cage, shoulder girdle, and pelvic mobility, and their effects on respiratory function, oral function, and activities of daily living (ADLs). We will also explore treatment strategies, particularly those addressing thoracic cage mobility and pelvic mobility, and their relationship to respiration and oral motor function coordination. The session will include a lecture and in-depth discussion of case studies, focusing on targeting identified impairments to improve respiratory function, oral function, and ADLs.
